Dr. Kathryn Benincasa

Post-Doctoral Fellow

Kathryn was born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario. She first joined the Saravanamuttu group in 2014 and completed her undergraduate thesis project studying modulation instability in photopolymerizable systems. After completing a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry at McMaster University, she continued researching in the group and successfully defended her PhD in June of 2023. Currently, Kathryn is investigating fabricating waveguide microstructures to study their applications as slim films able to enhance the field of view of various optical devices. Kathryn enjoys participating in outreach events which focus on science dissemination and gender equity in science. When she’s not in the lab Kathryn enjoys crocheting, playing video games and spending quality time with her cats.
